An epic musical fantasy about the incredible human story of Elton John's breakthrough years. The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John.
Drama Fantasy Musical - This film tracing the life and career of Elton John is not a
traditional biographical drama but an often surreal musical with
various characters including the singer/songwriter/entertainer often
bursting out into his hit songs. Language, drug use, sexual
situations, and gay themes make the film not for kids. Taron Egerton
fans will enjoy this major showcase for his acting and singing.
PROFANITY: 20 F-words; 11 S-words; a number of others. SEX/NUDITY: Gay sex and orgies with brief nudity. VIOLENCE: Brief fighting. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. ACTION: None. COMEDY: Comic lines and visual gags.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Rocketman works because it isn't constrained by the beats of a traditional bio-pic. Although the movie will be rightfully and enthusiastically embraced by the singer's fans, it has something to offer those with no more than a casual recognition and appreciation of the man's music.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average ...a formulaic, paint-by-numbers biopic. It actually begins at a moment of crucial emotion and flux in the singer's life, then backtracks to show us how he ended up there... Egerton gives a performance with such thrills and vulnerability, such charisma and pathos, that it's hard not to be wowed.
The GuardianFull Review Excellent ...a riotous fact-meets-fiction swirl that combines the Brit-pic grit of That'll Be the Day with the colourful ambition of Absolute Beginners and the surreal excesses of Lisztomania, all tied together by a barnstorming central performance from Taron Egerton.
