Four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their fun outing turns into heart-stopping fear when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.
Adventure Drama Thriller - While not directly related to the first film
in terms of specific character and story, this
is also an underwater shark thriller. The
familiar faces in the cast, Nia Long and John
Corbett, only have small supporting roles,
with young newcomers in the leads. While there
isn't any overly graphic gore, intense and
violent scenes of shark attacks, as well as
some language, make the film not for kids.
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average "Uncaged” has no narrative connection to its predecessor. ...the only thing that works here, ironically enough, is the ending, which is just as nonsensical as the originals, but is nevertheless goofy enough to bring some sorely needed energy to the proceedings.
Slant MagazineFull Review Above Average ...this standalone film is less concerned with exploring its main characters' familial relationship. And that's mostly for the better, as it gives Roberts more than enough room to foreground the grueling terror of coming into contact with sharks in the ocean deep.
The GuardianFull Review Above Average I doubt there's much more life to squeeze from this franchise (although I would bet money that they'll try) but as an unrelated sequel to a film that was originally set to premiere on the bottom shelf of a supermarket, this is better than it needs to be.
