Based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.
Drama - While being the center of all of the advertising, Tom Hanks's portrayal of beloved children's television icon Fred Rogers is not the focus of this fact-based drama, but a journalist character played by Matthew Rhys. Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good Hanks, who captures the man's precise diction and soothing intonation, quickly moves past imitation to find the nurturing soul that Mister Rogers opens to the world; not just to children, but to skeptics... Slant MagazineFull Review Very Good You'll likely never doubt the reality of what you're seeing at any point, though there's something unsettling about the precision of both Hanks's performance and the frame housing it—uncanny valley effects that have been achieved through fully analog means.
