Destitute times call for desperate measures, and a series of desperately outrageous attempts by a penniless young college student to keep his poor family afloat lie at the center of SENSELESS, a fresh comedy with heart.

Marion Wayans stars as Darryl Witherspoon, a BedStuy kid who has made it all the way to the top of his economics class at Stratford University only to have personal economics threaten his future and his family's survival. While his classmates are mostly bankers' and lawyers' sons, Darryl is the son of a single mom and she's relying on Darryl to change his brothers and sisters future.

There's a lot of dirty jobs out there but Darryl Witherspoon never says die. When opportunity strikes in the form of a highpaying medical experiment that no one else will participate in, Darryl is his usual fearless self. Little does he know that this experiment will wreak havoc on every single one of his senses except the most important one: his sense of doing the right thing.

The role of Darryl Witherspoon gives the upandcoming Wayans, who is the youngest member of the Wayans family and star of the hit television series "The Wayans Brothers," an opportunity to demonstrate his wild style of comedy part Buster Keaton slapstick, part rubberfaced mimicry, part hip wit while staying true to themes close to his own heart and soul.

Says Wayans: "The story is about a guy who learns that working hard pays off but only if you don't pretend to be something you're not. Super sight means nothing if you're not a super person. That's what it takes to really get people to love and respect you."

Marion Wayans stars in the Dimension Films comedy SENSELESS, directed by Penelope Spheeris from a script by Greg Erb & Craig Mazin. David Hoberman is the producer of the film which also stars Matthew Lillard, David Spade, Rip Torn, Brad Dourif and newcomer Tamara Taylor. Eric L. Gold and Don Carmody are the executive producers. Peter Safran is the coexecutive producer and Albert Beveridge is the coproducer.

The lead character of SENSELESS is a wily underdog who runs up against all kinds of tricky problems as he simply tries to survive. But Darryl has a very clear motivation the mother he adores and the brothers and sisters he's hoping will have an easier time in life.

"I used my brother Keenen to base Darryl's drive on," explains Wayans, who at 25 is the youngest of the five performing siblings (including brothers Damon and Shawn and sister Kim). "Keener was the first Wayans to make it, and I watched him struggle to get ahead and then turn around to help the family. I approached role as if I was Keenen helping my mother and family out of the projects while dealing with tremendous pressure. Whatever else is happening to him, that's always Darryl's main goal: to help his family."

Similar to Wayans, director Penelope Spheeris was drawn to SENSELESS's intriguing mixture of comedy, college campus humor, and the uplifting story of a kid triumphing, albeit in very funny ways, over his troubles.

Known for such film comedies as "Wayne's World"" and "The Little Rascals" as well as the definitive youth culture documentary "The Decline Of Western Civilization," Spheeris suspected that her highspirited view of comedy might be a goo
